INTRODUCTION
In June 1992 I took early retirement from my work with Credit Lyonnais Securities.
In April 1993 I decided to try and learn Italian and I joined a class with Southwark College at the Queen’s Road Centre. This was about 10 minutes walk from home.
In March 1994 I went on a tour with The British Museum to Sicily. When I informed my Italian teacher, Mrs. Elizabeth Farrugia, that I would be absent for two weeks, she said “That will be fine, just write your diary every day in Italian and let me see it when you return.”
Some of my classmates have seen the instalments; there are now more than thirty and I am working on number thirty-three and thirty-four at this moment. I have printed and bound the last three and many friends have expressed their pleasure at receiving their own copy. All the instalments have been to Italy, so that my daughter’s in-laws could read them. They have been particularly interested where I have been on tours in Italy.
Desmond Reid suggested that I scan them and have them on my web site www.johnsonroy.co.uk, but only the last three existed on my computer, so I have had to scan the rest. What follows is the result, which I hope will give you some pleasant reading.
INTRODUZIONE
Nel Giunio 1992 sono andato in pensione dal mio lavoro con Credit Lyonnais Securities.
Nell’Aprile del 93 ho deciso di tentare di imparare l’Italiano e ho frequentato una classe con Southwark College al centro a Queen’s Road, Peckham. Era una camminata di dieci minuti dalla casa.
Nel Marzo 1994 sono andato a un giro con il Museo Britannico in Sicilia. Ho avvisato la mia insegnante italiana, la signora Elisabetta Farrugia, che sarei stato assente dalla classe per due settimane. Lei ha detto “Sarà bene, ma scriva il suo diario tutti i giorni in italiano e, quando ritornerà lo correggerò.”
Alcuni dei miei compagni di classe hanno visto questi fascicoli, adesso ce ne sono più di trenta e in questo momento sto preparando i numeri trentatré e trentaquattro. Gli ultimi tre loro pubblicati e rilegati come libri e i miei amici sono stati contenti di ricevere la loro copia. Tutti i fascicoli sono stati spediti in Italia, così la famiglia di mio genero ha potuto leggerli, e in modo speciale quando sono andato in Italia.
